Divemaster is the first professional level in diving. You train with our instructors in the water and at the centre, and learn to plan, lead and look after dives for other divers.

During the course you pass four watermanship tests: a 400 m swim without stopping, an 800 m swim with only mask, fins and snorkel, 15 minutes floating or treading water in deep water, and a 100 m tow of a tired diver.

Once certified, a Divemaster may supervise certified divers, assist instructors during training, and run some programmes on their own: Try Diving, refresher programmes for divers coming back to diving, and skin diving courses.

The Divemaster certification does not expire. To stay active you renew your membership with your training agency every year and keep the insurance required where you work.

Requirements

• At least 18 years old
• Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver, or the same level from another training agency
• Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (first aid and CPR), completed within the last 24 months
• A medical statement for diving signed by a physician within the last 12 months
• 40 logged dives to start the training, and 60 logged dives to be certified
